CASTING ALL ROLES:

SEYMOUR KRELBORN (Male, 20s-30s) – A self-doubting, overworked, put-upon florist’s clerk and eventual, improbable hero. He is a genuine, well-meaning man who is taken for granted because of his clumsy ways and poor social skills. In love with Audrey and will do anything to protect her. Any ethnicity.

AUDREY (Transfemme, 20s-30s) – She is all heart and vulnerability beneath her peroxide blonde hair and suggestive outfits. She has poor self-worth and even less formal education, but her incredible good looks and sweet demeanor get her by. She longs for stability and tenderness, although she has long settled for less, including in her current abusive relationship. Any ethnicity.
NOTE: Actors who identify as transfemme/non-binary, genderqueer are encouraged to audition.

MR. MUSHNIK (Male, 50s-60s) – The weathered owner of the failing East Side flower shop and Seymour’s boss. He is profit-driven, and not afraid to be manipulative. Any ethnicity.

ORIN SCRIVELLO / DENTIST (Male, 30s-40s) – An egotistical dentist clad in black leather jacket with a passion for sadistic tendencies. Audrey’s abusive boyfriend, and the only pleasure he derives from their relationship is hurting her. Any ethnicity. Also plays various small roles in other scenes, including Mr. Bernstein, Mrs. Luce, and Skip Snip.

THE VOICE OF THE PLANT (Audrey II) (18+) – An actor/vocalist located offstage, as the voice of the plant, Audrey II. The voice is that of a street-smart, funky, conniving villain, with a funky R&B singing voice.
NOTE: Actors from the global majority are encouraged to audition.

URCHINS – CRYSTAL, RONNETTE AND CHIFFON (Female+, Black, Late Teens-Early 20s) – Called “street urchins” by Mr. Mushnik, they live on Skid Row and prefer to spend their days ditching school and hanging out in the neighborhood. They also act as the story’s occasional narrators and Greek Chorus. Young. Energetic and street smart, with a sharp sense of humor. These girls are the only ones who have a grip on reality. Strong singers and movers.
NOTE: Actors who identify as cis woman, transfemme/non-binary, genderqueer are encouraged to audition.

PUPPETEERS to be cast at a later date. If you are interested and would like to submit now, please do.
